ENCOURAGING YOU TO LIVE OUT LOUD

BOLDLY

AS YOUR MOST AUTHENTIC SELF

Last week, I talked about community and how traditions can sometimes make you feel excluded. This week, I want to get to the heart of what this entire journey has been about for me: worthiness.

So many of us, myself included, have lived under the burden of "if/then" theology. It's the idea that if you do this, then you will be worthy. If you pray enough, then you'll be heard. If you follow the rules, then you'll be loved, blessed, or seen by Creator.

This kind of thinking is so subtle you may not even realize how deeply it has affected you.

It was a constant quiet voice in the back of my mind, measuring me against a divine scorecard. Did I read my Bible enough today? Did I say the right thing? Was my heart in the right place? Was I disappointing God? Am I being too much or too little?

This "if/then" cycle is exhausting, and it’s built on a lie: the lie that we are not inherently worthy.

Letting go of my old religious framework has been about reclaiming this fundamental truth: I am inherently worthy as a human being. My worth isn't something I have to earn, achieve, or perform for. It was given to me at birth, a part of me just like my breath or the beating of my heart.

This shift has been revolutionary. It has meant letting go of the idea that God’s approval is something I needed to strive for. Instead, I now see it as a constant, unconditional gift. God’s love isn’t the prize at the end of a race; it’s the very air I'm breathing with every single step, regardless of my choices.

This understanding has freed me from the anxiety of trying to be "enough." It has given me the space to embrace my imperfections and my humanity. It’s given me the freedom to simply be, and to know that in simply being, I am enough.

I’ve always been enough. Always accepted. Always loved. Always approved. Always seen. Always valuable. Always worthy. Even when I didn’t get the job, the approval, the role, the friend, or the win from humans. There was no moment when I was made more worthy than another. No decision made me more valuable to anyone or any being -- except myself.

Because the truth is, Creator doesn’t make junk.

I am not junk. You are not junk. We are not something bad that needs to be made good. We are already worthy and good. Religious systems convince us we are lacking, but that’s a lie.

Truthbomb: We aren't lacking.

Do I believe God is who he says he is? Absolutely. Do I believe Jesus is who he says he is? Absolutely.

But I no longer believe I, or any other person on this earth, was created as disgusting, repulsive, or abominable by the one who created me, as many of us were taught by religious systems and empires.

Full stop.

My point is I have shifted from worth being dependent on something I have to do or earn by "accepting Jesus in my heart" and instead worth is remembered -- a birthrite. Remembering Jesus has always been with me from birth.

I may have lost some of you, and that’s okay. I would have lost me too, several years ago.

BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS... Whew. Ready for another truth bomb?

The Bible is not the simple, complete book many believe it to be. Many of the most confusing verses come from a collection of writings carefully curated by a political council. Constantine’s Council of Nicaea in 325 CE didn't just debate theology; they voted on which texts to include and which to bury, not based on spiritual truth but to fit a political agenda. And let's be honest, it worked.

Am I against the Bible? No. Do I believe it is the full picture and the whole truth? Also, no.

Here's just one example: the Book of Enoch, a text once considered scripture by the earliest churches, was later removed by church leaders in the 4th century.

Why? It tells a story where divine beings share knowledge like astrology, plant medicine, and feminine wisdom with humanity. That knowledge was labeled "forbidden."

Before anyone says, "this sounds like New Age deception," ask yourself: Who benefits from you never learning how powerful you were created to be by Source? (See 1 Enoch, Chapters 6–8. Super interesting read.)

Gospel of Mary: Depicts Mary Magdalene as a visionary disciple.

Gospel of Thomas: A collection of sayings of Jesus, also considered a Gnostic Gospel.

Gospel of Judas: Writing focused on the role of Judas Iscariot.

Gospel of Peter: Describes the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Infancy Gospels: Texts like the Infancy Gospel of Thomas that describe Jesus's early childhood.

Book of Enoch: Writings attributed to Noah, which include prophecies and angelic visions.

Book of Tobit: Historical story featuring angels, demons, and a journey to Persia.

Book of Judith: Story of a heroic Jewish widow who saves her people from an invading army.

Book of Maccabees: Accounts of the Maccabean revolt against Hellenistic rule.

Some of these books answer questions, some bring more questions, and others challenge the very systems that were created by the exclusion of these books.

Did I lose you? Are you screaming "heretic" yet, or are you praying for my "lost soul"?

Sigh. Let me move on.

Do I think I have all the answers? Absolutely not. Am I still reading, researching, and exploring with curiosity? You bet. Do I possibly have things wrong? Maybe. Am I okay with this journey? Yep.

Not having "the" answer used to bother me. I needed to be absolutely sure of what I knew before I shared it. To feel safe, I needed the rigid confines of a particular denomination (or as it were a non-denomination) to validate my beliefs. I needed the black-and-white certainty of good and bad.

But not anymore, because I now know, believe, and embody my worth -- given to me by God at my conception.

This newfound sense of worth is not just a nice idea; it's the foundation of everything else. It’s the starting point for building a more authentic life and a deeper, authentic connection with God. Questioning the systems and empires created in his name does not scare him one bit, unlike the systems and empires that stand to lose "control" through that very wonder and curiosity.

You are so worthy. It's time to live out this worth without constraints to a checklist of dos and dont's. You are pleasing to God just by being imperfect and authentic YOU!

Next week, if you are BOLD enough to continue, I'll talk about how this all connects to learning to trust yourself.
