ENCOURAGING YOU TO BOLDLY LIVE OUT LOUD

AS YOUR MOST AUTHENTIC SELF

Anger is a powerful emotion that often gets a bad rap. However, when channeled authentically, it can be a catalyst for growth and self-understanding.

Storytime

It was a sweltering summer afternoon, and the air conditioner in my small apartment was struggling to keep up. The fan whirred loudly, but it did little to cool the stifling heat. To make matters worse, my landlord had promised to fix the unit weeks ago, but still hadn't followed through. I'd called him multiple times, but his excuses were always the same: "I'll get to it next week."

Frustration bubbled up within me. I'd been sweating and uncomfortable for days. I felt ignored and disrespected. Anger began to simmer, threatening to boil over. I paced the cramped living room, muttering to myself. The thought of confronting my landlord filled me with dread, but I knew I couldn't let the situation continue.

Taking a deep breath, I decided to approach the situation calmly. I sat down at my desk and wrote a clear, concise email to my landlord. I explained how the heat was affecting my well-being and requested a specific timeline for the repair. I tried to avoid accusatory language, focusing instead on the facts and my needs.

After sending the email, I went for a walk to cool down and clear my head. As I strolled through the neighborhood park, I realized that my anger was a valid response to the situation. It was a signal that my needs were not being met. However, I also understood that lashing out or yelling wouldn't solve the problem. By expressing my concerns calmly and respectfully, I had taken a step towards finding a solution.

When I returned home, I received a reply from my landlord. He apologized for the delay and assured me he would have the repair done by the end of the week. While I was still frustrated, I felt a sense of relief. By acknowledging my anger and responding constructively, I had taken control of the situation.
